Pottery - Nativity Scene
During a pottery course with Stuart Marsden of Somersham Pottery, this nativity scene was created by me which comes out every Christmas in our house. Featured in the open stable (created by slab work) are Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus, with the Angel, three Wise Men (carrying frankincense, gold and myrrh) plus a donkey, setting the scene. Every Christmas this 9 piece set is taken down from the loft and lovingly put together, with requisite gold tinsel. It has become a Carran family heirloom and I greatly enjoyed creating it. I deliberately did not add features to any of the figures as I thought their general characters and quirkiness would speak volumes already and they can hopefully be easily identified.
Pottery - House Plaque
This house plaque featuring two snakes forming the numbers of our house was also created during the course at Somersham Pottery. The colours of the leaf have taken on a myriad of varying hues of glossy greens and browns yet interestingly, the firing has rendered the street name matte lilac. I like the rustic nature of this piece very much.
