Nosferatu
Dimensions: H (61 cm) x W (61 cm)
Medium: Mixed including acrylics & various fabrics (crushed black velvet on Nosferatu's cloak/nylon scarf wrapped round back of frame for the lower part of Lucy Harker's dress)
This picture, my interpretation of the vampire, Nosferatu, was taken from the cover of the Werner Herzog film "Phantom der Nacht" (1979). It was created for my husband Martin as a present for our first Christmas together as husband and wife. It is not for sale but was made as a tribute to not only a magnificently sensitive and poignant portrayal of the vampire by Klaus Kinski but a spellbinding and haunting film, with an amazing score and breathtaking scenery.
I endeavoured to make the background more dramatic by making it look it is literally weeping, mirroring the intense feelings of Nosferatu for his unrequited love. The bat features heavily in the film and was a must-have addition to the painting.
