Batik and silk painting
After a day's teaching course, learning the ancient craft of batik, I created this piece which is pictured here. I used a tjanting tool to apply hot wax to the fabric on the areas to be resisted by the paint which is applied after. The fabric is then left to dry and finally ironed which melts the wax and leaves the area underneath. Further layers of wax can be applied for further interesting effects.
I am still learning the intricacies of this fascinating art to perfect my skills and look forward to continuing to add to my skills.
