About the Artist
Liz Carran is a self-taught artist, living in Nairn in the Highlands, and comes originally from Glasgow.
Influenced from an early age by her grandfather, Robert Ross, who created beautiful oil landscapes and father, Harry Ross, who specialised in pen and ink, Liz continued the family tradition, honing and perfecting her own style over the years.
Amongst Liz's favourite artists are Archibald Thorburn, Arthur Rackham, Claude Monet, David Shepherd, Edith Holden, and Gordon Beningfield.
Of great importance to Liz and themed throughout her work, is her love of natural history, and this is reflected in her paintings, depicting a myriad of animals, in their natural settings. Liz's use of colour is very strong, with muted or intensified backgrounds to add to the viewer's feeling of cold or heat, and as an appreciation and homage to each particular animals' habitat. Liz hopes that her paintings will depict the beauty of the world we live in, and the creatures that inhabit it, who deserve our ultimate respect for their continued share of this planet.
